Our address:
BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art
South Shore Road,

Please note: The Ground Floor access lift is temporarily out of order and under repair. Please use the route along the river side of the building or the entrance on South Shore Road for step-free access. Baltic apologies for any inconvenience caused. Please speak to Baltic Crew if you require further assistance.

Road closures affecting your visit

As part of the ongoing regeneration works to the Gateshead Quayside, including the construction of The Sage Arena, Conference and Exhibition Centre, several partial closures of Hawks Road are planned from 6 June to approximately 23 October 2022, to allow for essential highways work. These closures will affect different sections of the road, at different times and consequently may affect your travel to BALTIC.

Full details of the road closure and diversion can be found here.

Please note: The Great North 5K, the Junior & Mini Great North Run are taking place on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 October. There are some road closures that may affect your visit. Please plan your visit ahead.

Walking directions from Gateshead Metro Interchange:

From Gateshead town Centre, we advise proceeding down West Street, turn right at the end of the road (onto Askew Road) and turn left crossing the road at the traffic lights and proceed under the train bridge. Now facing the Tyne Bridge bear left down Bottle Bank (with the Tyne Bridge on your right, and Hilton on your left). At the bottom of the road, cross the road and take the first right along Hillgate, passing underneath the Tyne Bridge. Follow the road along the River Tyne as it joins South Shore Road, passing Sage Gateshead on your right. You will then reach BALTIC Square on your left where you can enter BALTIC. This is also a step-free route.

Newcastle Central Station is the closest train station.
