Refugee Week 2022

Wed 22 - Sun 26 June

Wednesday 22 – Sunday 26 June

10.00–18.00

Since 2019, under the umbrella of Neighbourly, BALTIC has been developing strands of work which seek to support and find ways of being a good neighbour to forced migration communities living in the North East.

This refugee week we’re collaborating with with the Neighbourly Working Group, as well as many of the people and organisations that have worked with us, guided us and been part of our sanctuary work.

Together we will be celebrating refugee week and exploring the theme of healing through art, singing, food and community

Healing means recovery from a painful experience or situation, so that we can continue to live. No-one understands this better than those who have lost their homes and had to build new lives from scratch. (Refugee Week, 2022)

Building activities

Wed-Sun, 10.00-18.00
Free, drop-in

  • Find out more about refugee issues by exploring a selection of books and resources in Front Room, recommended by people and organisations across the sanctuary network in the North East.

  • Listen to music from around the world, with a mixtape compiled by our SkillsMatch Volunteers, in partnership with West End Refugee Service.

  • Enjoy a free hot drink or squash, with a cupcake. Each cupcake is decorated with an orange heart which represents compassion for people fleeing war and persecution.

  • Visit an exhibition exploring healing in our Level 2 Learning Lounge, produced by artists with refugee backgrounds, in collaboration with Action Foundation, West End Refugee Service, Comfrey Project and Northern Print.

  • Drop-in between 14.00-16.00 and experience healing workshops, delivered by people with experience of forced migration.
